Philana Quick Welcomes Bernie Long to MCA/MCAF Staff

Philana Quick, Executive Director, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Bernie Long will assume her new position as full-time Administrative Manager for MCA/MCAF on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Bernie has over thirty years experience in administration, principally with the Enoch Pratt Free Library, where she served for six years as Administrative Secretary to Deputy Director, James Welbourne, and five years as Executive Secretary/Board Liaison to the Director, Dr. Carla Hayden. Much of her experience at Enoch Pratt will be put to good use in her work with Maryland Citizens, from customer service to arranging meetings to interacting with board members.

Bernie retired from Enoch Pratt in 2004, remarried, and settled into a new life in Owings Mills, MD, but said, "Philana, I'm a people person. I need work; I need something else to do." Philana assured her that Maryland Citizens had plenty for her to do!

You'll find Bernie to be vivacious, energetic and enthusiastic, with a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to relate to people of all ages and at all levels. She is a consummate professional and a team player, and she has been highly recommended by each of her former employers. We have Cyndi Roberts, Gary Vikan's Executive Assistant, to thank for informing Bernie about this job opening.

Bernie will be officially introduced and welcomed at the Board of Trustees Meeting on June 19, 2008. If you have occasion to call our office, please introduce yourself so that she may become acquainted with those in the field as soon as possible. We are delighted to welcome her to Maryland Citizens for the Arts.
