MEETING WITH YOUR LEGISLATOR
Maryland Arts Day gives registrants the opportunity to meet with their elected officials in Annapolis. Together with the County Coordinators, MCA arranges the participation of legislators. Your personal invitation and the fact you will be present is also important (see below). Legislative visits will be held in your home County’s Delegation Room in the Lowe House Office Building. Please see the Meeting With Your Legislator page of our Advocacy Guide for more tips on maximizing the effectiveness of your meeting.

PREPARATING FOR ARTS DAY
Call your legislators in advance. A call from you to let your legislators know you are looking forward to meeting with them from 12:00-1:00 in your county delegation room will reiterate the importance of their attendance. Use the General Assembly’s toll free number, 1-800-492-7122.

Come prepared with a story about how the arts affected someone in your County. During lunch your County Delegation will have time to pick which stories will be the most effective and collaborate on what you are going to say.

Bring a camera and take pictures of your meeting to submit to local media and include in your own publications.

Many County Delegations have found it helpful to:
• Assemble packets for each politician of organizational brochures and arts-related items to leave in their offices as a reminder about the importance of the arts in their districts
• Bring a gift/loan of a piece of artwork for their office
• Prepare a display board for the meeting room of photos and information about the arts in your County

Check with your County Coordinator to see if you can help with any of these projects.
